How to uninstall your Avast Antivirus from Mac PC/Laptop?

 

  • On Mac, uninstalling Avast is much simpler than on Windows. Windows computers sometimes display too many errors, but not here. On your toolbar, select either “Avast Security” or “Avast Antivirus”. You can also search for Avast Antivirus in the applications folder by opening the “Finder” window.
  • Select Uninstall Avast Security by pressing Avast Security on the menu bar. A window for uninstalling will open. Wait a few seconds after clicking “Continue” for the uninstallation process to begin. A new dialog box should appear, stating that the program file has been successfully deleted by the computer.
  • If you want to use the applications folder, open Finder, or press “Command + Shift + G” to open the “Go to Folder” window. You can find the Avast Antivirus files that were left over there. What to do when you are having issues removing Avast antivirus on your system?

 

  • Use “Avast Uninstall Utility”for uninstalling avast from your system. Start your Windows computer on the “Safe Mode”. Open Chrome and go to the official Avast website to download “avast.clear.exe”. Next, from there download the “Utility” file to your computer. Run the Utility file using the “Run as Administrator” option from the sub-menu after downloading. If the data that is already present is accurate, check the program file location that is specified in the directory and set it as default. Click “Uninstall” and wait for a couple of minutes. Once it’s all done, restart your computer.
  • Using Command Prompt is the final method for removing Avast. If the Avast Clear uninstaller does not work, you can uninstall Avast using the Command Prompt. Open the file “Stats.ini” in File Explorer by going to “c:Program FilesAvast SoftwareAvastsetup.” Look to Normal, and type SilentUninstallEnabled=1. The changes are saved by clicking “Save.” Type cmd (Command Prompt) into the search bar on the Start menu and run as adminisntrator. Type cd “c:Program FilesAvast SoftwareAvastsetup” and tap on enter.  Type “instup.exe /instop:.” enter “uninstall /silent” and press Enter. Avast is uninstalled after this, restart your computer after this. 

Disable Self-Defence settings in Avast Antivirus by going to Settings > General > Troubleshooting and unchecking Enable Self-Defence if the Command Prompt method does not work. Then, try uninstalling again using the Command Prompt. 

 

Important Notes to remember before uninstalling Avast antivirus from your computer: 

 

  • The Avast file can’t be manually uninstalled completely. You are expected to go through the entire steps to erase it from your system forever.
  • Remember to restart your PC (for Windows clients mainly) after uninstalling the application.
